Penile Pump trial date set for April 11, 2006

For 17 years Melvin and Betty Sembler operated one of the most destructive juvenile drug rehabilitation programs in the world--Straight, Inc. But now some are claiming that Straight was just a pyramid scam. Worse, many feel that Melvin and Betty Sembler should be held accountable for the deaths of over 40 former clients who were treated at their experimental program. Ray Bradbury, who used to work for Straight, is one of those. He has been an outspoken critic of Straight and the Semblers since the mid 80s. He was responsible for closing Straight in 1993.

In 2003 Mr. Bradbury advertised for sale on eBay a penile pump once belonging to Ambassador Sembler. Mr. Bradbury says he did this to bring attention to the plight of Straight survivors. Ambassador and Mrs. Sembler say he has done this just to embarrass and humiliate them. Penile pumps are sold as sexual toys, organ enhancers and as medical devices. Ambassador Sembler alleges that he had prostrate cancer and that a doctor prescribed his pump.
At first the Semblers demanded a speedy trial but it looks like they've dragged their feet at every turn. This bizarre civil suit has become known internationally as PumpGate. The trial is finally set for April 11.
